React Basics

React is a JavaScript library for building user interfaces. It allows developers to create large web applications that can change data, without reloading the page. The main concepts of React include:

Components

  • Functional Components: These are JavaScript functions that return HTML (JSX). They are simpler and can use hooks to manage state and lifecycle events.
  • Class Components: These are ES6 classes that extend from React.Component and can hold and manage state and lifecycle methods.

JSX (JavaScript XML)

  • JSX is a syntax extension for JavaScript. It looks like HTML but works inside JavaScript. It allows React to define components and their HTML structure with JavaScript.

State

  • State is an object that determines the behavior of a component and how it will render. It is mutable unlike props.

Props

  • Props (short for properties) are read-only components. They are used to pass data from parent to child components.

Lifecycle Methods

  • Lifecycle methods are special methods in class components that run at particular times during a component's lifecycle (e.g., componentDidMount, componentDidUpdate, componentWillUnmount).

Hooks

  • Hooks are functions that let you “hook into” React state and lifecycle features from function components. Common hooks include useState, useEffect, and useContext.

Virtual DOM

  • React keeps a lightweight representation of the real DOM in memory, known as the virtual DOM. When the state of an object changes, React first changes the object in the virtual DOM. Then, it compares the virtual DOM with the real DOM and updates the real DOM with the minimum number of changes needed.

Key Concepts

  • Unidirectional Data Flow: Data in React flows from parent to child components via props. Children components cannot directly modify the props they receive from their parents.
  • Declarative UI: React allows developers to describe what they want to achieve without having to manually manipulate the DOM.

React's ecosystem includes tools and libraries like React Router (for routing), Redux (for state management), and many more, making it a powerful solution for developing complex and interactive web applications.
